Family Violence Safety Information
Safety planning and asking for help are critical
to those who are not safe at home.
We know that the home is not safe for everyone. So, we have developed a safety planning resource to assist you in planning ways to keep you and your children safe. Visit SafePathways to learn more about what you can do to be safe, for service provider contact information, and to create customized safety plans: https://www.safepathwaysnt.com/
If you are in an unsafe or dangerous situation, go to someone you trust or a shelter immediately. Call 911 or your local RCMP detachment if you are in immediate danger and need help.
Safety planning
If you are not comfortable creating a safety plan using our website, there are many service providers who can help you create a safety plan, who can help arrange safe phones, safe transportation, and safe shelter. These include: the Family Violence Shelters, Victim Services, and the RCMP; contact information for these service providers can be found be clicking on this link. Social workers, nurses, and NWT community counsellors should also be able to assist with safety planning.
Court Orders
Talk to a family violence shelter, victim services worker, your local RCMP, community counsellor, or lawyer about court order options, such as an emergency protection order, restraining order, or peace bond.
