December 6th Vigil: National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada
December 6, 2020 is the 31st anniversary of the Montréal Massacre
This year’s vigil is different from past years due to Public Health restrictions on gatherings and food service. Instead of a ceremony, we are hosting the vigil outdoors as a self-guided tour.
We will be setting up a series of vignettes/tableaus focusing on remembrance and action along a section of the Frame Lake Trail, just off the Somba K’e Park in Yellowknife. Participants are encouraged to drop by any time between 1 and 4 pm to walk though the Vigil at their own pace, in their own family unit, or in a small group. To that end, there is no specific schedule – it is drop-in. An audio recording of the tour will also be available, so bring your smartphones and earbuds!
We believe it will take all of us working together to end the violence against women - to end gender-based violence. So, we encourage you to think about what role you can play. To learn more about how you can be part of the change, please see our 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence webpage.
